GST Portal Might Have Some Technical Errors At Times. Here Are Couple Of Things You Should Know

India has launched the Goods and Services tax recently. It is also shifting the entire taxation system online. The online filing of returns and charges is relatively new to India as compared to other countries.

After the gst implementation, it has become imperative for the companies to upload their invoices on the online portal. Various forms have to be filled online. Therefore, the website needs to keep up with the massive inflow and outflow of data.

The online filing of taxes should be done carefully. It is crucial to check gst number and other details carefully before filling the form. Let’s discuss some issues which you might face on the GSTN portal while filing returns and making tax payments.

Technical issues faced on the GST Portal

The GST filing experience has a scope of improvement. You might face some technical issues while working on the GST portal. These issues include:

Deferring of e-invoices

E-invoicing was thought to be a game-changer for the Indian taxation system. The invoicing had to be done online and submitted on the portal. This change was done to make the taxation process easy and paperless.

  • File size limit is a hindrance when it comes to uploading the invoices.
  • HSN codes not being accepted
  • Problems in the real-time generation of online invoices

These problems have led to multiple revisions of deadlines. The deadlines have now been pushed further to October 2020.

Deferment of various new returns

Implementation of new returns is not incorporated on the GST Portal. The latest returns would need strong technical backing. A frequent matching of invoices has to be done to make GST successful.

Migration issues

There have been a lot of technical issues while filing TRANS-1 and TRANS-2. This system has led to various problems with the Input Tax Return System. Due to the technical glitches, taxpayers have had to let go of the Input Tax Credit, which reduces the tax burden for the manufacturers to a great extent.

Transition Issues

People are unable to file TRANS 1 and 2 even after three years of GST implementation. Filing transitions from online to offline mode has become difficult due to these technical glitches. People have to keep proof of any technical glitch faced to take legal support, but the standard and regular taxpayers’ hardships would increase in maintaining such records.

Implementation Failure of Initial Return System of GSTR 1, 2, 3 and 4

Initially, three returns had to be filed by the taxpayers:

  • GSTR 1- The details of output supply had to be filed
  • GSTR 2- The details of the inward supply had to be filed
  • GSTR 3-Inward and Outward supplies had to be summarised, and the payment had to be made.

All of these could never be implemented due to various technical glitches. The provisions and filing of GSTR 2 and 3 were removed. Simultaneously, GSTR 3B came into the picture, which made tax filing difficult.

The Interest Amount is not Auto-calculated on the Portal

No interest gets calculated on the portal if a taxpayer files a late return. It becomes challenging to track such expenses which grow on an everyday basis. This interest payment could come as a shock for the taxpayer.

Problems Faced in the Generation of One Time Password (OTP)

  • OTP does not get generated
  • The SMS containing the OTP does not appear on the taxpayers’ phone number.
  • The OTP does not get accepted on the portal.

Long Waiting Time Hauls

The online GST portal is a slow website. Accessing your uploaded data also becomes a problem while working on the GST portal. It takes about 20 minutes for GSTR 1 to open.

Modification of any data takes even more than 20 minutes. The amendments have to be on an existing data point, but it still takes hours to make the necessary changes.

Technical Issues Make the Preview of Invoices Difficult

The invoices can only be accessed easily from GSTR-1 if they are less than 500. Businesses tend to have thousands of invoices. In case of more than 500 invoices, the taxpayer will have to download the return and then view the invoices in offline mode.

Conclusion

There are various other glitches in the online portal of GST like the inability of a taxpayer to download the electronic credit ledger after six months. There are problems when a single pan is associated with multiple glitches. A lot of errors pop up in such a case.

The GST portal has a lot of issues. Make sure to save your data from time to time to avoid any data losses.
